“Red Letter Christians” pick and chose which red letters…

(Just a thought…How long until the torah is in red letters? There is ONLY one law giver so it should be in red as well.)

The emergent church is climbing out of the primordial soup, consider the article below by Jan Markel…

In many Bibles, all the words of Jesus are in red. There is nothing wrong with that. But something is wrong when Leftist Christians or so-called Christians want to mute the words of Paul and other writers and only follow Jesus’ words. They call themselves “red-letter Christians.”

They feel it is convenient to blot out the words of Paul on homosexuality and focus in on the good deeds Jesus talks about. Most are pacifists who reject an “eye for an eye” (Leviticus 24:19-20). They focus on Jesus’ words about helping the poor, ministering to “the least of these” (Matthew 25:40), loving our enemies, etc. That justifies abandoning hundreds, even thousands of condemning verses in the Bible they choose to wish away. That makes homosexuality OK and war wrong! And remember, Paul and the others in the Bible represent Jesus’ words. They were His spokesmen.

Some who believe this way practice a form of neo-Marxism and others would call it “Christian Marxism” — an oxymoron if there ever was one. They note that the early church shared everything (socialism).  A close cousin to this is “liberation theology.”

Those who are high profile in this movement include Jim Wallis, Tony Campolo, Brian McLaren and his Emergent bunch, and the National Council of Churches. Jim Wallis says, “In those red letters, Jesus calls us away from the consumerist values that dominate contemporary American consciousness.”  Translate that to mean he loathes capitalism and opts for socialism and/or communism.

Wallis continues, “Jesus calls us to be merciful, which has strong implications for how we think about capital punishment. When Jesus tells us to love our enemies, He probably means we shouldn’t kill them. Most important, if we take Jesus seriously, we will realize that meeting the needs of the poor is a primary responsibility for His followers. Ghandi once said that everybody in the world knows what Jesus was teaching in those verses except Christians.” To your average evangelical, the words of Ghandi are meaningless.

Red-letter Christians feel evangelicals spend far too much time worrying about abortion and homosexuality. Wallis and Campolo make the college circuit and get standing ovations from young people who are seeing them as newfound gurus. Red-letter Christians champion “social justice,” the cause of illegal immigrants, environmentalism, high taxes, discrimination issues, socialized medicine, and getting rid of the death penalty. They are first to stand in line to play the “blame America” game.

Red-letter Christians support unrestricted big government, sometimes equating the welfare state with the Kingdom of God.

This crowd loves to spend other people’s money. They put down conservative Christianity when, in fact, it is conservative Christians who are first to step up to the plate whenever there is a disaster at home or abroad!

As David Noebel of Summit Ministries writes about Wallis, “Wallis and his Sojourners’ community believe Castro, Hugo Chavez, Daniel Ortega, and the other revolutionary forces are the Communist paradises the U.S. needs to emulate in order to establish ‘social justice.’ ” Noebel emphasizes the startling and frightening fact that Wallis is Obama’s spiritual advisor.

Ronald Nash in his book, Why the Left Is Not Right, says, “Wallis was pro-Viet Cong and gloried in America’s defeat in Vietnam. Wallis said, ‘I don’t know how else to express the quiet emotion that rushed through me when the news reports showed that the U.S. had finally been defeated in Vietnam.’”  But he said not a word about the blood baths that followed.

The issues you will never hear red-letter Christians talking about include winning the lost, the lateness of the hour, or sin and repentance. Their mantra is peace, yet they do not understand that only Jesus ruling from Jerusalem will bring peace to this planet. They would scoff at that and say peace would be better accomplished if they saved the planet with their works based on the red letters of Jesus. And their understanding of the peace of God is minimal.

As Mark Tooley of the Institute for Religion and Democracy writes, “These people only criticize the U.S. and Israel in its human rights critiques, while remaining largely silent about monstrous regimes. They focus on America’s supposed mistreatment of Indians, about slavery, and the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II. But they will never talk about the Holocaust.” You will also note they don’t talk about the butchery of Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, Saddam Hussein, or Kim Jong IL.

Red-letter Christians join the chorus of those who believe in a utopia with no wanting or war. Yes, that will come someday, but not the way they think. This could come as a shock to them just because they have little to no regard for other parts of the Bible. They have almost created a new meaning for the term “biblical illiteracy.”

It is also tragic that these folks are frequently called “the evangelical Left.” They don’t have even 1% of evangelical theology in a single bone in their body. They cherry- pick the verses they like, almost exclusively the red letters of Jesus.

Also on a sad note, the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) is promoting a Leftist conference featuring Jim Wallis October 21. This was announced in their “NAE Update” received today, October 5, by e-mail. Tooley’s more Mainline Protestant Institute for Religion and Democracy takes a more righteous stand against Leftist causes than does the NAE.

It breaks my heart to see the politicalization of the Word of Yahvah Eloheim. What is called the Christian right battling with the liberal left. We must act as Torah observant, Yeshua centered bond servants of the Most High. Both camps described above get their point of view from pulling verses out of context and using them to support their own pet wars.
Let’s stand for the whole council of El Shaddai. Yeshua did not teach an us verses them. He spoke out against all sides of the political parties of His Day of Visitation. They all had it wrong and the same is true today. Paul himself taught against choosing up sides and dividing the Body of Messiah. What we see going on is the enemy doing his best to divide the Body. We must be ever vigilant of his wiles. Be careful to not choose sides but be a loving witness to both sides. WE must be the uniting voice of truth and reason. Both camps described above are in error.
The entire scripture is the Word of Yahvah and no matter what color ink we use to print it we still are responsible to live by all of it and to do it in the same Spirit that our Master and Savior did it. In love but with uncompromising firmness.
The “Left” is correct in their insistence that we are to care for the poor, love our neighbors as ourselves etc. and the “Right” is correct in their firm stand against the wickedness of homosexuality, abortion, etc. The problem is they both should embrace it all. Forgive me for using that old tired worn out phrase, “What would Yeshua do” but it is very appropriate in this application.
I believe politics to be evil. I do not participate and I don’t believe any follower of Yeshua should. I don’t vote and I don’t belong to any political party. Why? You may ask. It is because when I entered covenant with my Messiah, I left the world behind. He prayed that we be in the world but not of it. To be kept from the evil that is in it. Not to join forces with one side or the other but to be salt and light to a dying people. I have a Kingdom and I have a King. They both will stand for all eternity. Yeshua is not up for re-election. WE need to keep politics out of our service to Him.
Forgive me for sounding preachy. This is a major pet peeve of mine. Although it doesn’t hurt to hear a little preaching now and then.

Amein brother! Good to hear from you Scot. I just got back home from visitation with my brother in Ohio. I took the red eye and arrived home at 1:00 a.m. All the prayers have been appreciated and have been answered. It seems my brother will have some more time. I don’t know how much though. He looks like a skeleton. He went from 220 pounds down to 135. But he is alive and expressed faith. I am thankful for that.

It has been a trying time for me brother but not nearly as much as you have endured. Praise YHVH for seeing you through it.

May YHVH further bless you through these High Holy Days!

The forces of adversity in this present age always attempt to rob us during the season of our joy…and they always fail.

  5. admin 06. Oct, 2009 at 10:40 am #

Back on topic…this emergent church theology is EVERYWHERE and is in perfect alignment with the coming delusion. Either YHWH’s instrucitons will be in you or they won’t. I keep hearing the words of Messiah…that in the last days “they will kill you and think they are doing god a service.” That means that the Jesus return problem will be solved, the two largest religions are both waiting for that. The false prophet will fulfill that.

Good to have you back David and Scot! :)

  6. serafima 06. Oct, 2009 at 11:43 am #

    David,
I am so glad for your return. I knew when Scot and you will be back, the blog will revive. I was missing your “preaching” and I missed all the brothers who have something to say in honour of Yeshua. The news about your brother’s faith it is a big achievement . Bless you brother for your mission and bless him also.
    serafima

  7. Larry 06. Oct, 2009 at 1:23 pm #

    scot,

I’m not sure I understand what you meant by “the Jesus return problem will be solved”, can you please explain, thanks.

  8. David 06. Oct, 2009 at 2:51 pm #

    Thanks Serafima and Larry.

    Scot,
OK brother, I’ll bite. You are correct, we need to get back to the topic.
Are you serious about a red letter Torah? It would be easy to have one printed. It would no doubt be branded as a Judaizing attempt to discredit the Words of Yeshua (of course they would say Jesus) and reintroduce the Mosaic Law (as they would call it) into the church (as they would call it.)
But it has merit. It would at least open a larger dialog (or fight) between Torah observant followers of Messiah and Christians. (as they call themselves)
So, I really think you were speaking tongue in cheek and really want to talk about the emergent church.
The enemy wants to keep us all fighting. This whole ecumenical movement of our day along with the health and wealth crowd and the followers of men like Joel Olstein and TV stations like TBN are crowding out the true voice of Yeshua and are overwhelming the world with their heresy.
We know they can’t win but millions of souls are being swept into eternity hearing only their message. Any suggestions? Maybe we should seriously work for a red letter Torah. Maybe we should be trying to stir up as much dialog and debate in the Christian world that we can.
So, tell us Scot, were you serious? Or, are you leading up to something prophetic to teach us? Or, am I misreading the whole purpose of the post?

  9. admin 06. Oct, 2009 at 3:14 pm #

I just thought that ANY and ALL truth comes from the same source…in which case the whole canon in its original form would be red.

The “Jesus return problem.” The strong delusion that is coming from above MUST deal with Jesus’ second coming and in fact it does…in the form of Isa\the false prophet who will claim to be the Son of Mary and a prophet.

    Glad to be back!

I bought my wife a Bible KJV a while back that has Red words in the Tanakh. Whenever Yah is personally speaking.

Great to hear from all of you.

Speaking of the “lateness of the hour” have you solved the 666 Riddle ?

Revelations 13:18 reads ….. “This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man’s number. His number is 666.”

Man’s Number. What is the Number of Man.

Carbon is the essential Atom of Life, and It’s number is exactly 666.
The Carbon Atom is made up of precisely 6 electrons, 6 neutrons and 6 protons. 6-6-6

The Beast of Revelations is Man ? Or is it Carbon ?

I’d say given the problems we are currently facing with Carbon Emissions. The Beast is Man’s use of Carbon. So how do we stop the coming Inferno, Floods and destruction of the Carbon Beast ?

  12. admin 06. Oct, 2009 at 6:20 pm #

I believe I have figured out the riddle though that is not the focus of this post. Stay on topic please.

  13. Duncan 06. Oct, 2009 at 6:38 pm #

Could it be the ones that are not embracing Yahshua and His Instructions , and therfore tend to fall into the Left or Right “groups”, are what Yah says make up the Harlot? And Yah is calling us back to Him alone, our first love ?

  14. Larry 06. Oct, 2009 at 6:38 pm #

This is so cool, just now on Fox News, Sean Hannity and Michael Moore were talking about similar things. Moore said that Jesus said love your enemy and then asked Hannity, do you? Hannity responded, I do, I love them [radical muslims] enough to grant them free tickets to “heaven”. LOL! This is crazy, all they talk about these people like Moore is love and peace and they pick and choose those verses from the Bible.

  18. admin 06. Oct, 2009 at 7:22 pm #

    Shevet,

You have this uncanny nack of telling part of the story. I find it to be less than honest, somewhat ethereal and entirely lacking in substance in virtually every post. When I was a kid, I made a pinewood derby car and raced it down the track. The minute I turned it lose, it did not do what I desired it to do and at some point later in time it was burned and perhaps contributed to the carbon problem. Now there was a lot in that story, not the least of which was the future of the car that was wayward. Part of love is wrath when that love is rejected. It is the other half of the yen\yang story…

  19. admin 06. Oct, 2009 at 7:26 pm #

I believe the carbon footprint problem is nonsense. A liberal racket created by hysterical and money hungry fearmongers whose god has to fit in their pocket.

No more carbon stuff please…I know, I brought it back up again. I just didn’t wan’t people to think I believed that silliness.

  20. Larry 06. Oct, 2009 at 8:05 pm #

    Shevet,

There is no such thing as “global warming”/”carbon footprint”, it’s all a farce. More and more serious Scientists are realizing this. And yes, let’s stay on topic.

  21. Duncan 06. Oct, 2009 at 8:51 pm #

Thanks Larry, and I agree Scot and Larry. I remember here about 200 miles inland from the gulf coast the days following hurricane Katrina and the day and nigthtime sky was visibly clearer to our naked eyes. It was awesome. Yah has untold and told resources right here on earth not to mention the heavens. Summer, Winter, Seedtime and Harvest.

BTW did you see my e-mail to you with the DEBKA report of the King of Suadi Arabia in Damascus last week. I would like to know more about that. Is that just more of the honing of the Axe? It may can be discussed on another thread. It seems the loss of leadership for opposition has created a vacum back to the Axe.

Great article! I enjoyed this post immensley! It is apparent that marxism has infiltrated American schools, churches, minority communities and various influential organizations such as the ACLU. During the 50′s Senator Mcarthy unvelied the presence of communists in various areas of American society. The communist manifesto and other communist documents make it clear that the communists planned to undermine the US by infiltrating the church, and destroying the family. It appears that the marxists were wildly successful in implementing their plan to infiltrate important American communities and institutions and now the US sits on the verge of making a wild plunge towards socialism. President Obama is of the same brand of Christianity as the red letter Christians. Their aim is to use scripture to promote and morally justify their marxists leanings.

I am concerned because this movement is successfully infiltrating many conservative churches as well. Men like Rick Warren are getting on the whole “Social Justice” Bandwagon not realizing that they are actually pushing the church and America towards Neo-Marxism. What is scary is that Warren as a Southern Baptist has trained 500,000 pastors (including myself). Warren is just a front man, the movement is much larger than he or his influence. Warren was able to support Obama during the election cycle because Warren is focused on social justice and far less upon teaching the entire counsel of God. He has lost site of His calling to “preach the word”. I like Rick personally, but I fear for his soul and worry about the future of the American church. It seems that the modern church is either too liberal, or so traditional that it cannot see or discern the real will of God. It deeply troubles my soul.

Red Letter Christians are just social gospel preachers of a new era. It is really nothing new, an old heresy that is unfortunately making its way into our churches like a supervirus. May God help us. As far as a red letter Torah, c’mon now, Jesus is the supreme revelation of God. While the Torah is indeed God-breathed it is not complete as God’s revelation without the Red Letters of our redeemer and Savior Jesus Christ. There is nothing wrong with the red letters, just a problem with how they are interpreted, twisted and used by so-callled followers of Christ.

    BTW Scot,

Bible Works5 may be coming your way real soon!

  26. admin 07. Oct, 2009 at 9:07 am #

:) I also downloaded a program that shows real promise…

It is free – The Word

    • Larry 07. Oct, 2009 at 1:48 pm #

Thanks to someone on this blog who mentioned The Word software (forgive me I don’t remember who), that’s all I use now, I love it! You can convert e-Sword modules. It’s got tons of great features. It is absolutely fantastic.

  27. admin 07. Oct, 2009 at 9:09 am #

There is only one law giver…Y’shua and only one law, one body, one new man, one YHWH…He is the author of the torah that later came in the flesh to walk it out. He is the “right arm of YHWH” that led the Israelites out of Egypt!

  28. David 07. Oct, 2009 at 11:22 am #

Y’shua is the WORD! from eternity to eternity. Every WORD of Scripture that has not been added my man through translator bias etc. is from Y’shua. He spoke from Sinai just as He spoke in the Gospels. There is no separation between them. The Voice from the Heavens spoken to Y’shua was His Voice as manifested from the Father to His Manifestation as the Son but it was the WORD! Eloheim is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth! He Manifest Himself as Spirit and as Flesh but the Flesh cannot contain Him. He is One, not three. The color of the print makes no difference.

  30. Duncan 07. Oct, 2009 at 12:08 pm #

Well said David, worship Yah our Abba and The Potter will do the molding.

  31. Chris 07. Oct, 2009 at 2:17 pm #

    Scot,

Bible Works5 does parsing and lemma searches etc. that cannot be done in free software. It doesnt have much commentary its focus is just on the text, the grammar, and the syntax. It is the best bible exposition software out there, yeah BW8 is $350.00 but it is worth it!

  32. Larry 07. Oct, 2009 at 6:04 pm #

I am no Bible software expert (although I’ve been a computer guy for 20 years), but from what I’ve heard, e-Sword with the help of some add-ons does parsing and lemmatization and so should The Word. Their gui is beautiful and yes, they are free.

  33. pastor_chris 08. Oct, 2009 at 8:08 am #

    Larry,

E-sword is great for shareware. But when you get into programs like Logos Scholars Gold, Wordsearch 8, and Bibleworks 8 you go to s totally new level.

For example in Bible works 8 the software will search every form of a Greek or Hebrew word and even every occurcnce in its case etc. The programs also provides complete parsing with oodles of morphological tags, lexicons and textual commentary.

In Logos the program will actually do a complete exegetical study for you by searchin all the info in your library. If you have never used these programs you have no idea what you are missing.

  34. pastor_chris 08. Oct, 2009 at 8:25 am #

By the way E-sword does not do greek and hebrew analysis and searches, it only provides definitions and some texts.

  35. Admin (weirdBeard) 08. Oct, 2009 at 11:01 am #

The other one (The Word) does if you get the plugin for KJC…

  37. Chris 08. Oct, 2009 at 11:25 am #

Well, I am working on a software review right now. I received somne free software to review Bible Software on my blog. I have sort of become an expert on this subject. Not that I am that technically savvy but I have used all the best and priciest programs. They really are a whole lot better than any of the share ware out there. It is hard to explain, but when my review is ready I’ll put up a post with a link to my blog.

  38. admin 08. Oct, 2009 at 3:07 pm #

By far the one that show the most promise is “The Word” once they pump out some more modules.

ISA basic is a free interlinear bible source that allows one to search a Hebrew word with all the prefix and suffix additions. It uses several differnet codexes and is very usefull.
