‘A pretty big deal’: With Iran’s help, Russia’s air campaign in Syria is about to get much deadlier

Russia has begun using an Iranian air base to launch airstrikes against rebel groups and militants inside Syria, the Russian defense ministry confirmed on Tuesday. It is the first time since Moscow intervened in the war on behalf of Syrian president Bashar Assad in late September that Russian warplanes have used a foreign nation as a base for their air operations, apart from the two air bases Russia established last year inside Syria.
