Geneva Study Bible:
Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people {k} draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their {l} fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
(k) Because they are hypocrites and not sincere in heart, as in Mt 15:7,8.
(l) That is, their religion was learned by man’s doctrine, and not by my word.
I have purposefully distanced myself from this same “master of ceremonies” mentality in some Hebrew Roots folks and have clashed with several in the last few years…
I see certain ppl doing that today…getting in front of ppl and bossing them around…
“get up”
“sit down”
“as the ushers come forward”
“I want you to pray in the spirit”
“begin to cry out unto God”
ERROR, manipulation and glaringly obvious group dynamics at play… the “sales pitch” always comes at the end…usuall after you have made sure you can get people to dance around and hop on one foot first…
I got burned by standing on the stage with someone who makes commonplace of this though I can honsestly say I had no idea…
Within the past few weeks, I have had to deal with blatant un-repentance of two different families. We shared fellowship with both families, both HR, both appear very pious, both consumed with a lying spirit, both were involved in the things in the first link.
1Ti 4:1-2 NET Now the Spirit explicitly says that in the later times some will desert the faith and occupy themselves with deceiving spirits and demonic teachings, (2) influenced by the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared.
But these families are more honest in their lying – than the Church is in it’s “worship service.”
2Ti 4:1-4 NET I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is going to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: (2) Preach the message, be ready whether it is convenient or not, reprove, rebuke, exhort with complete patience and instruction. (3) For there will be a time when people will not tolerate sound teaching. Instead, following their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves, because they have an insatiable curiosity to hear new things. (4) And they will turn away from hearing the truth, but on the other hand they will turn aside to myths.
I came across Joel Osteen a couple days ago and watched the last 10 or so minutes, it was mesmerizing, she says with a sarcastic smile, because it kind of was. A message called “The Commanded Blessing” – he actually stood up there and told his stadium-sized crowd that God has commanded Himself to bless them, so in essence He has no choice. I believe he based it on Deut 28:8. A magnificently blatant prosperity teaching, sounding very much like a motivational speech rather than a biblical teaching, with no mention of how in this life we WILL have tribulation, but he DID suggest that if they give (to him of course), God will give to them, and his thousands clapped and nodded and Amen-ed throughout, and then of course there was a commercial at the end to solicit their latest tape series – Rise & Shine – “how to make every day your best!!! day.” Your post made me think of him. Oh and his website says that with any monetary gift (minimum $10), we can receive this teaching on DVD or CD. The Rise & Shine series though requires a minimum gift of $25. Add a leather bound “life journal” for a gift of $100. Just so wrong on so many levels. And I swear the man has plastic hair. Ha, but actually that would be appropriate.
agrace,
A couple of years ago, I joined my highschool facebook group and reconnected with many of my old classmates. I went to a small, private xtian school. My grad class had less than 60 people.
One of my old classmates sent me an email to share with me how he remembered me being so sweet to him and how he’s a full fledged member of Osteen’s church (can’t remember the name of the church, but he referenced the name of the church rather than Osteen) and that he hoped I retained that positive cheery outlook – or words to that effect.
Anyway, he went on and on about how wonderful that church was, how uplifting – how much fun it is helping run the childrens ministry, etc., and it really made me so sad in my Spirit. I prayed and then wrote a reply to him – I can’t even remember what I wrote now, but it was a loving caution (with Scripture) – encouragement to seek Yah through Messiah – not through man.
I just share this because what you wrote about the mesmerizing aspect is so true. I believe there is a powerful, dark spirit working through many in the organised churches. Many forget that it’s up to each individual to work out their own salvation with fear and trembling, and trust Yah to lead us away from the snares laid by the adversary. Many just trust pastors/leaders blindly, to their detriment, sadly. I’m not saying some of them won’t be in the Kingdom (but they will be least in the Kingdom – weeping, wailing and gnashing their teeth as I understand it).
Our flesh definitely is at enmity against Yah – and I’m reminded how we’re cautioned to guard our hearts and minds. I can’t even listen to him (or others like him) anymore, because like you, when I have listened to them – it’s mesmermising. It appeals to the flesh.
Skip Moen wrote an amusing (and thought-provoking) essay on the latest Bible translations this morning. Just give ‘em what they want and they’ll throw money at you.
It is my prayer and I am confident that in many instances it will be the case that the mighty shaking that is coming will blow the religious song and dance out of the water…
Observer, my husband told me loads of stuff they learned in the military about controlling crowds and masses of people………..some of the very same psychological techniques are used in religious organisations to great effect, sadly.
At first, I actually thought this was a serious promotional video! LOL!
I was laughing but grieving at the same time…. this was a great video but it is so true… the world really sees the flaws in christendom, but why can’t people in christendom see it? It’s so frustrating. I have never respected the world’s views on christendom so much before.
“Revealing my Tattoo, so you know I have a past”… LOL! Too funny….
The only thing I didn’t like was the Tatto was written in the Holy Language. I wished they could have used Greek, english, or something else. The fact that the guy used Hebrew mockingly was a downer. Other than that, it was pretty funny.
Scot,
Wonderful Point Brother!
How short is our memory? For the majority of us it was in a Sunday church in the Name of Jesus that we came to faith. Our blindness was just as profound as we see theirs as being now. There but for the Grace of El Shaddai go I.
We should all be doing our best to pull them from the fire! Just as we did with Chris, who I still believe will come to the truth soon as a result of our prayers, Eloheim’s mercy, and his seeking.
Coming soon: site wide user forums where ANYONE can post topics. We had to disable all internal network structure (inbox, messaging, etc...) but it will be back AFTER the forums are opened.
New video released!

We came out of a SB Mega-Church. This is so spot-on it is absolutely amazing!!! We saw each one of the things on a weekly basis.

Whoops I guess the Passage would be helpful: Isaiah 29:13
It made me laugh a little and sad at the same time. Good Scripture, James.

So familiar
I love the “Hmmmmm…” during the offering call…
Sadly…I have seen these manipulative tactics in some sabbath keeping groups though not as many…
“Its between you and God… but we’re tracking it…” LOLOL
lol and lol and crying

Love it. A place where you’ll hear the gospel of cheese-us.
Cheese-us was a Cheeto shaped Jesus that sold for $155…that changed my outlook on a whole bunch of things…
I actually am seeing this video (representing many, many churches) and these two seemingly unrelated topics as linked:

P.S. There’s no money in the plain old unchanging Truth (Torah).
It is my prayer and I am confident that in many instances it will be the case that the mighty shaking that is coming will blow the religious song and dance out of the water…
Well said brother.
” opening my arms, see my tattoo- to show that I have a past “…anyone have the translation of the marking?
soft tone, pause, whispering, pause, the pained expression, pause, the long prayer…. lol. But deadly.
me 2
the interesting thing is…they realize it is a problem…it shows a bit of internal disgust while at the same time an apparent flaunting…
I am still in shock about this. It never occurred to me that this was a coordinated system, with psychological tricks.
Is observer and observed the same person?
Observer, my husband told me loads of stuff they learned in the military about controlling crowds and masses of people………..some of the very same psychological techniques are used in religious organisations to great effect, sadly.
p.s. it has the adversary’s smarmy sugar coated fingerprints all over it.
I might have typed ‘observeD’ by mistake
no…there is a user account called observed…you should check
Any translation of the tattoo?
Observer, the enemy deceives people with impure religion.
Better wording… into impure religion.
The Tattoo Translation is:
וַֽיְהִי֙ “And it came to pass” the first Hebrew word in Gen 6:1
Thanks Clint.

It was hebrew, hmmm? Maybe the guy meant it as God is going to restore His sheep that have gone astray. Believing the best!
Thank you for the optimism Duncan
just remembering my past… without the help of a tattoo lol
We are all done for without Him, but I’m certain you realize that brother.
shalom
Amen…
Say it aint so…….Joel a liar, and hypocrite……lol
we have a responsibilty to pray for these folks…
sober reminder – thanks brother.
